Schedule change next week is computer destruction.

We will not be taking apart the computers this week. We’ll do it next week.

We’re changing the meeting plans by swapping the plans for last week and next so that we can accommodate the Pack 378 Webelos schedules and they can join us for the computer tear destruction meeting.

If you were going to bring computers for us to destroy (recycle?), let me know if you’d rather I picked them up this week.

Fill The Truck Fundraiser

Venture Crew 652 will again be hosting an Easter Seals FILL THE TRUCK Fundraiser on Saturday, May 13th 9 am- 3 pm in the Brecksville Municipal Parking lot to support the Venture Crew trip to Sea Base in July 2017. It was a huge success in the Fall because we started to collect early. NOW would be a great time to notify family, friends, neighbors and co-workers of the FILL THE TRUCK event, so everyone has enough time to clear out their closets and to help make this event successful.

As before we will be collecting the following items: Anything made of cloth, including clothing, comforters, blankets, towels, sheets, shoes, stuffed animals and purses. In addition, Easter Seals will accept books, CDs, VHS tapes, kitchenware (dishes, silverware, pots/pans, etc), small picture frames, wall hangings, children’s toys, games and knickknacks. All non-cloth items must be in good, clean, working condition and must be bagged/boxed separately from cloth items. All donations are tax-deductible.

Also, just as in the Fall, the Brecksville Shred Your Documents Day will take place the same day, in the same parking lot 9 am-12.

When we get closer to the date we will provide a sign up sheet for scouts to help unload cars and load boxes/bags onto the truck. Younger Scouts will earn service hours.

Venturing Crew News

1. January 15- PANCAKE BREAKFAST. It has not been advertised by the church in the bulletin again so we need to get the word out. I am attaching a flyer. Please distribute as much as possible. Set up starts at 7am and please expect to stay until 3pm when cleaning up is completed. This is a fundraiser for the Sea Base Crews but everyone is encouraged to help out. Other volunteers will receive service credit towards ranks.

2. January 18- The venture crew will be doing an induction ceremony for the whole crew so everyone can advance in rank. The meeting will start at 8:30pm. Please come dressed in your full Class A venture uniform.

3. January 20- Lend a hand- Sly has volunteered to make the delivery this month. I would like another venturer to assist him so everyone can learn the process. Any volunteers?

4. ADULTS- Due to the new youth protection rules set forth by the diocese, all adult volunteers that may spend more than 4 hours a month with anyone under the age of 18 (this includes going on a camp out or going to an event that is more than 4 hours long) must do the following by January 31st.
~Attend orientation (letter attached)
~Read two packets given by the diocese and submit a paper saying you have read both documents
~Submit a fingerprinted BCI/FBI background check
~Register vital info on Selection.com for continuing background checks

Adults new to scouting at a Catholic church have a much more involved process so please see me if you are interested in becoming an adult volunteer in the program

5. April 28-30- World Fest- This is a very large venturing event in our area that might be fun to attend. Early bird registration is due by January 20th. I tried attaching info but the website was giving me trouble. So please go online and look it up. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

6. SEA BASE PARTICIPANTS– I will be collecting the monthly $200 payment on January 18th, the night of the induction ceremony. This is after the pancake breakfast so , if you wish, we can incorporate that into your payment. I am including the flight info in this email so you can make arrangements at work or the like. Also, ALL youth participants must have the attached minor consent form filled out and notarized because the crews will be over/in international waters for the Sea Base trip.

7. Fundraisers- Please set up and get me your dates and info for your fundraisers if you have not yet. We are in the home run stretch to pay for the Sea Base trip.

Diocese Youth Protection Policy Training

My take on these is that they are aimed at Scoutmaster and Assistants but may include Merit Badge Counselors and that parents who accompany us on campouts and other outings can be considered as “Chaperones”.

Patrol Leader Council meeting 10/5

This week 10/5 is the Patrol Leader Council meeting when we’ll plan November, December and possibly January.

Not a regular meeting and we expect to be done by 8:15.

Also, this Sunday is the St. Basil Fall Fest where we’ll be handling beverages and trash similar to what we do at the parish picnic. I didn’t have the signup sheets at the past few meetings but I’ve made one online. You can come help even if you don’t sign up. There’s also popcorn sales after masses.
