Uniforms
Scouting is a uniformed activity, and is similar to a sports team. The uniform promotes team spirit and a sense of belonging.
Every troop Scout needs a complete “class A” uniform. This includes a tan Scouts BSA shirt and insignia, belt, scarf and slide, and olive green pants or shorts. These are required for summer camp, travel, events and meetings.
- At troop meetings, class A uniform is required to participate. Scouts who arrive without the proper uniform can stay at the meeting but cannot participate unless approved by the senior patrol leader. The current rules are chosen by the patrol leader council (youth leaders).
- Full class A uniform is required for special ceremonies (Court of Honor, Webelos Crossing).
- Service to the charter organization requires class A uniforms for duties when the troop is in the public eye. Class B shirts may be worn for setup & cleanup.
- On campouts, the troop travels and arrives at camp in class A shirt.
- On campouts, the troop wears the class A shirt for dinner.
- At summer camp, camp rules require class A uniform for dinner.
Occasionally, a “class B” uniform shirt may be worn. It can be a BSA Scouting t-shirt, BSA activity shirt or a troop t-shirt. Annually, before summer camp, the troop's patrol leaders council (PLC) and senior patrol leader (SPL) choose a t-shirt design to purchase from a local vendor. Check with the Scoutmaster for details about ordering.
- Outdoor meetings may be designated as class B uniform events.
- Class B shirts are worn during campouts or other troop activity.

Any exceptions or special uniform requirements for a meeting or activity will be announced in advance.
A Scout who has earned the Arrow of Light as a Webelos may wear that insignia below the left shirt pocket. If any religious awards or service stars were earned as a Cub Scout, the appropriate knot may be worn above the left shirt pocket with a small pin to indicate that it was earned as a Cub Scout.
Patch placement on uniforms is described in the Scouts BSA Handbook or can be viewed here.
